About Pulled Wool Pads
Why Choose a Pulled Wool Saddle Pad?
There's a reason wool saddle pads have been trusted by horsemen for generations. While some may call wool a "high-tech" fiber today, ranchers and riders have known for years that it's one of the best materials you can put on a horse's back.
Wool naturally helps regulate temperature, keeping horses more comfortable in both hot and cold weather. It also has excellent moisture-wicking properties, pulling sweat away from the horse and helping prevent heat buildup under the saddle. In fact, wool can absorb a significant amount of moisture before it ever feels wet.
Another benefit of wool is its natural resistance to bacteria, odors, and fungal issues. Unlike many synthetic materials, wool doesn't trap dirt and debris as easily, making it easier to keep clean and maintain.
Perhaps one of the biggest advantages is longevity. A quality wool saddle pad is an investment that, with proper care, can last for many years while continuing to provide comfort and protection for your horse.
Benefits of Pulled Wool
✔ Naturally moisture-wicking
✔ Excellent temperature regulation
✔ Superior shock absorption
✔ Helps reduce pressure points
✔ Conforms to your horse over time
✔ Durable and long-lasting
✔ Soft, comfortable fit against the horse
Unlike many mass-produced pads, pulled wool continues to mold to your horse's shape, creating a more personalized fit with every ride.
Built to Fit Your Horse
Each of our pulled wool saddle pads goes through a light felting process from every ride to help create a durable foundation while maintaining the natural softness and flexibility of the wool. As the pad is ridden, the wool fibers will begin to settle and become more supple, allowing the pad to naturally conform to your horse's back.
This break-in period is completely normal and is one of the advantages of a quality wool pad. Over time, the pad develops a more customized fit, helping distribute pressure evenly and improving overall comfort for your horse. The result is a saddle pad that becomes better suited to your horse with every ride.
A Tradition That Has Stood the Test of Time
Pulled wool saddle pads have been trusted by horsemen for over a century, particularly throughout the Western United States and among the Great Basin Buckaroos. Their reputation was built through generations of hard use, long days in the saddle, and a proven ability to keep horses comfortable while standing up to demanding ranch work.
What makes these pads unique is their construction. Each pad is made up of thousands of individual wool loops that are carefully pulled and worked together to create a durable, breathable, and comfortable foundation. On average, a 32" x 32" pulled wool saddle pad contains approximately 3,600 individual wool loops.
This labor-intensive process is part of what makes pulled wool pads so special. Every pad reflects a tradition of craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations, combining time-tested materials with a design that continues to perform for today's horsemen and women.
